Juan Tumpag Jumalon Killed in Shooting
Radio broadcaster Juan Tumpag Jumalon, alias, Johnny Walker, has reportedly been killed while conducting a live broadcast for Gold FM Calamba on Sunday.
Jumalon held the 94.7 FM Gold Radio Calamba, at his residential yard in Calamba, Misamis Occidental. He died on the shot in a shooting after two bullet wounds in his face.
According to the Police reports, “Initial investigation revealed that while the victim was working inside his own Radio Station 94.7 Calamba Gold FM located at his residence, an unidentified person went inside and without apparent reason, drew his firearm and shot the victim hitting his lower lip.”
Northern Mindanao Police regional director Brig. Gen. Ricardo Layug, Jr. said that a victim was announced dead at the Calamba District Hospital where he was taken after the gun attack.
He said, “We extend our full support to the media community and underscore the vital collaboration among law enforcement, the community, and all the stakeholders in ensuring the safety of all the media practitioners in the region,” said Layug.

Calamba Municipal Police Station reported that he was shot by only an unidentified attacker, seized his gold necklace, and ran away.

President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. recently ordered the PNP to entirely probe the brutal killing of Misamis Occidental broadcaster Juan Jumalon in Calamba town. The accident happened on Sunday, 5 November.
“I condemn in the strongest terms the murder of broadcaster Juan Jumalon. I have instructed the PNP to conduct a thorough investigation to swiftly bring the perpetrators to justice. Attacks on journalists will not be tolerated in our democracy, and those who threaten the freedom of the press will face the full consequences of their actions.” Marcos penned in his Twitter post.
The Presidential Communications Office said that Marcos blames the killing of Jumalon, saying that “senseless attacks against journalists have no place in a democratic country.”
