Woolworths was founded around 98 years ago in 1924 by five Australian entrepreneurs Percy Christmas, Stanley Chatterton, Cecil Scott Waine, George Creed, and Ernest Williams and its first store opens in New Zealand’s Wellington’s Cuba St, as a general merchandise store in 2019.
The Woolworths Supermarkets’ headquarters are in Bella Vista, New South Wales, and Australia. A number of stores are located in New Zealand and Australia.
As of 2023, Brad Banducci is the CEO of Woolworths Group, Paul Graham is the Chief Supply Chain Officer, and Natalie Davis is Managing Director of Stores, of Woolworths Supermarkets.
There are 2,257 stores of Woolworths Group in Australia and it operates around 194 Countdown Supermarkets across New Zealand.
Woolworth CEO Brad Banducci said that Woolworth Group has a long history in New Zealand and its first store was opened in Wellington in 1929.

In 2009-2011 all Woolworths stores rebranded to Countdown and now the Woolworths decided to rebrand its name and logo from the next year in 2024.
