Tszyu was born on 2 November 1994 in Sydney, New South Wales. His parents are from Russia. His dad, Kostya, has Russian, Korean, and Mongolian origins, while his mom, Natasha Anikina, is of Russian origin.
Tim’s father, Kostya, a former undisputed light-welterweight champion. When Tim was six, he got interested in sports, and he started doing gymnastics. Later, when he was 10, he decided to play soccer instead.
When his family returned to Sydney, he began to pursue his career in boxing after leaving his interest in football. After playing as an Amateur boxing player he turned into professional boxer in 2016.

Tim Tszyu told the Howie Games podcast, Every year at school there was a Father’s Day camp. I never had one Father’s Day camp. Never had a Father’s Day breakfast,”
He continued, “He was never there for us. Now looking back to it, I understand where he came from because to get to where he got to, there’s a lot of sacrifice.
‘It was tough because you always think of your parents, it’s like a fairytale, they love each other. Then all of a sudden it’s completely gone.”
He added, “Dad moved to the other side of the world. For me, it wasn’t a big shock because he’d always be in and out. As soon as he finished boxing in 2005 he was always in and out of Russia non-stop.”
The 28-year-old boxer’s mother Natasha Anikina is of ethnic Russian heritage. His mother separated from his father and lives with her kids.

Tim Tszyu’s mother Natalia and grandfather Boris stayed a strong presence in his life. He said in an interview “My grandfather is the key piece. Not just for my career, but Dad’s career too. He’s the foundation, he’s the block, he’s the one who pushes it.”
