Samboy Lim Illness Update: Former Filipino professional basketball player, Samboy Lim previously got a serious illness when he collapsed on the bench during an exhibition basketball game at Ynares Sports Arena which caused him to fall into a coma for over a month. Here’s what we know about Lim’s illness update.
Samboy Lim Illness Update
Samboy Lim is a player of the Philippine Basketball Association and a many-time national player in the 1980s and 90s and he became a five-time All-Star and two-time PBA Mythical Team selection. He has also played on the courts of Phil-Am Life Homes in Quezon City for 15 years.
Samboy’s health had been an issue over the course of his basketball career, he got several serious injuries as a result of his actions on the court.
After retiring from his professional career he began conducting basketball training classes and summer camps.
In November 2014, Lim suffered a heart attack and later he was rushed to a hospital unconscious after collapsing just a few minutes after coming out of a PBA Legends exhibition game at the Ynares Center in Pasig.
A fellow PBA great Nelson Asaytono was at the spot when the incident occurred, he said, Samboy was doing exercises and stretching on the sideline shortly after being pulled out of the game by Legends coach Bogs Adornado when he collapsed.
Then, he slipped into a coma and, on January 14, 2015, he slipped out of his coma state and was brought home where he received treatment and therapy on a daily basis.
As of 2023, he is still in touch with a team of medical specialists, physical therapists, and private nurses who care for his health and he continuously receives medicines.
Know Samboy Lim’s Stroke Condition
Samboyf Lim, 61, suffered a stroke which led him to take bed rest for years.
PBA legend Alvin Patrimonio shared the story about Lim’s stroke:
He recalls, “But Samboy remained unconscious. If he continues to stay in this condition, the plan is to submerge him in ice water,” he told Celis.
Further, he added, “Sam takes too many fat burners and energy drinks, it could have overworked his heart,” one athlete told Celis, with another one saying, “He plays too much basketball almost daily, sometimes up to midnight.”
