Robert Oppenheimer’s Cause of Death: Julius Robert Oppenheimer, the greatest physicist, is well known as the “Father of the Atomic Bomb.” He once said to his brother Frank Oppenheimer that “I need physics more than friends.” Let’s know some interesting facts about Oppenheimer.
Who is Robert Oppenheimer?
J.R Oppenheimer was an American Physicist, who is often regarded as the father of the Atomic Bomb. He was the director of Project Y ( also known as Los Alamos Laboratory) and organized the Manhattan Project during world war second.
Whenever we listen to Nuclear Weapons, there is only one name we heard about Robert Oppenheimer, because he created the first Atomic Bomb in the world. That’s the reason he is credited as the father of the Atomic Bomb.
He was a Jewish immigrant from Germany. He completed his Ph.D. in Physics from the University of Göttingen in 1927. He made a significant role in theoretical physics including achievements in quantum mechanics and nuclear physics for wave functions and work on the theory of Electrons and Positrons the Oppenheimer–Phillips process in nuclear fusion.
He also made a significant contribution to the theory of neutron stars and black holes, quantum field theory, and more.
Robert Oppenheimer’s Cause of Death
J.R. Oppenheimer had been diagnosed with throat cancer in 1965. He had been addicted to smoking cigarettes throughout his career and was also referred to as a chain smoker. That caused his throat cancer.
He died at his home in Princeton, New Jersey, U.S. in 1967 due to throat cancer. He was nominated for the Noble award three times but he never won a single Noble title.
What Happened to Oppenheimer?
Oppenheimer was recruited to work on Manhannat Project in 1942 and a year later in 1943, he was appointed as the director of Project Y in Mexico for developing a nuclear weapon.
On 16th July 1945, the day came to test the atomic Bomb, Trinity, under his leadership. In August 1945, weapons were used against Japan’s cities, Hiroshima and Nagasaki.
Having seen the outcomes of atomic weapons, he opposed the development of the Hydrogen bomb during 1949-1950. He died at the age of 62 in 1967.
