In 2019, Coleen Rooney, who is married to footballer Wayne Rooney, thought that her secret Instagram posts were being shared with a newspaper called The Sun. Rebekah Vardy, the wife of footballer Jamie Vardy. Ms. Rooney suspected that Rebekah was the one who was telling The Sun about her private posts.
The Sun then wrote these made-up stories, which said that her basement had flooded, she went to Mexico to try and have a baby girl, and she wanted to be on a TV show called Strictly Come Dancing.
The Real Wagatha Christie Story
Wagatha Christie is a name given to Rebekah Vardy and Coleen Rooney’s feud. It emerged in a 2022 libel case in the English High Court, Vardy v Rooney.
Coleen Rooney, a 37-year-old television personality, accused Rebekah Vardy of leaking her private Instagram post and story to the British newspaper The Sun in 2019. Then, Vardy sued Rooney for libel, the case came to trial in May 2022.
On 29 July 2022, The high court dismissed Vardy’s claim on the basis of Rooney’s reports were substantially correct and later Ms. Vardy was ordered to pay a substantial amount of around a total of £3 million to Rooney’s expenses.
Cooley Rooney, wife of former England star Wayne Rooney, wrote in her revealing post, “For a few years now someone who I trusted to follow me on my personal Instagram account has been consistently informing The Sun newspaper of my private posts and stories.
“I have saved and screenshotted all the original stories which clearly show just one person has viewed them.
“It’s ……………. Rebekah Vardy’s account.”
After some time, Vardy, who was pregnant at the time, responded on Instagram, she strenuously denied any involvement.
