A 69-year-old man from the Jewish community in California was killed on Monday after a fight at protests related to the Israel-Hamas conflict. His death was officially considered a murder, and authorities are looking into the possibility that it might have been a hate crime.
The man’s name was Paul Kessler, and the incident happened at a location where there were two opposing rallies on Sunday. One rally supported Israel, and the other supported the Palestinian cause. People who were in favor of each side of the conflict were at this meeting, and a fight broke out among them, according to the authorities.
In a video shown on the internet, a man lying on the ground and was helped by two people. According to reports, Paul Kelser fell down on the ground and was immediately referred to hospital where he died after a day.
An autopsy reported that Paul passed away from a straightforward force head injury and the manner of death led to a homicide.

A pro-Palestine protest was held in Westlake Village, a townlet near Thousand Oaks, California on Sunday, where Paul Kessler attacked and struck on his head and he was pronounced dead on Monday.
The sheriff’s department said in a statement, “The Ventura County Medical Examiner’s Office determined the cause of death to be blunt force head injury and the manner of death homicide,”
Ventura County Sheriff’s Office. announced, “Witness accounts indicated that Kessler was involved in a physical altercation with counter-protester(s), During the altercation, Kessler fell backward and struck his head on the ground.”
Rabbi Michael Barclay, the rabbi in Westlake, said he was trying to find more information. He wrote on Twitter:
“Please do NOT post misinformation about the horrible death of an elderly Jew yesterday here in Westlake, where I am the local Rabbi,”
“I have had long conversations with the Chief of Police and they sure investigating the different accounts of what happened and reviewing video.”
He further added, “It is not clear yet exactly what happened other than an elderly Jew was counter-protesting at a Gazan demonstration, hit the ground, and died.
We DO NOT KNOW at this time if he fell, was pushed, or was attacked. Please do not spread rumors. We will know soon what happened.”
The Jewish Federation of Greater Los Angeles declared that Kessler was “struck in the head by a megaphone wielded by a pro-Palestinian protestor.”
The federation said in a statement, “While we wait for more information from our law enforcement partners, we remind you that this is the fourth major antisemitic crime committed in Los Angeles this year alone.
Violence against our people has no place in civilized society. We demand safety. We will not tolerate violence against our community. We will do everything in our power to prevent it.”
