The most powerful and influential woman, Nicola Sturgeon resides in Broomhouse, Glasgow along with her husband Peter Murrell, who is the former chief executive officer of the SNP. The pair have been together since 2003.
Nicola Sturgeon got engaged to her husband on 29 January 2010 and their wedding took place on 16 July 2010 at Òran Mór in Glasgow.
Nicola often says, “gives me a lot of joy and helps with the stresses and strains of work.”
According to Forbes Magazine, she was ranked as the 50th most powerful woman in the world in 2016 and 2nd in the United Kingdom. Nicola Sturgeon won the Scottish Politician of the Year Award five times respectively in 2008, 2012, 2014, 2015, and 2019.
Nicola’s husband Peter was a public relations Officer for the Church of Scotland for four years before entering politics, he was later elected Membership Convener by the SNP Peterhead branch.
Murrell replaced Michael Russell as chief executive of (SNP) in 2001. In 2023, When his wife, Nicola Sturgeon announced her resignation as first minister, Joanna Cherry, who is an SNP MP, called for Murrell to step down as CEO of the party stating
“The SNP Leadership & party management have been deeply bound together. I cannot see any circumstances in which Peter Murrell can continue as Chief Executive under a new leader who must be free to choose a successor,” as per Wikipedia.
Nicola Sturgeon News: First Speech after Nicola Sturgeon’s Arrest
The ex-SNP leader, Nicola Sturgeon was often mistakenly referred to as “first minister” by Annabelle Ewing, deputy presiding officer.
Ms Sturgeon was arrested amid an investigation into SNP finances on 11 June 2023 and later released without any charge and she has denied any wrongdoing.
According to BBC reports, Nicola welcomed plans to pilot extended childcare for one and two-year-olds.
She told MSPs, “The pilot that was announced [by Mr Yousaf] was a sensible approach and I hope very much that it will lead as soon as possible to mainstreamed provision.”
Ms. Sturgeon stepped down from her position as Leader of the Scottish National Party in February 2023.
