Matthew Mitcham, a famous person from SAS Australia, has talked about a very sad and difficult time in his life. He explained that after he won a gold medal in the 2008 Olympic Games, he started using drugs, especially crystal meth.
During a tough conversation on the SAS Australia show with the Chief Instructor, Ant Middleton, Matthew shared the hidden problems that caused his life to become very unhappy.
“In 2008, I won an Olympic gold medal with the highest-scoring dive in Olympic history. But after that I began a bit of a downward spiral,” Matthew said.
“I was using a lot of drugs, particularly crystal meth. But even though I’m an addict in recovery, I am still ruled by self-doubt and fear.”
Speaking to Ant, he explained about his childhood, “Ever since being a child, not wanting to get in trouble was a constant in my life, I hate being told that I’m wrong, or feeling that I’ve done something wrong.”
