John Leslie and Ulrika Jonsson are the most famous names in the media or television industries and these two names have made their benchmark. Well, during the late 90’s these two names were associated and later a controversy happened.

Well, the controversy started when Ulrika Jonsson claimed in her 2002 autobiography that, she had been raped in a hotel room by a well-known TV personality when she was just a 19-year-old girl in 1988. Although in her autobiography she didn’t name any of the television or media personalities but journalist Matthew Wright mistakenly named “John Leslie” as the alleged rapist live on air.
After Matthew’s statement regarding this case, Leslie confirmed that he would not file a lawsuit against Wright, and said, “I think he just made a really big mistake and unfortunately I was the one paying the price.” He added “I’ve never assaulted anyone, ever. I just wouldn’t do it. I don’t get aggressive, I get excitable.”
Were the Assault Claim Against Leslie Real?
Well, this case impacted John’s professional life and he lost his £240,000-a-year contract job on This Morning. In this case, John Leslie was arrested by police in London and was presented in court. Many thought that he actually did this crime and he will sent to jail but the fact was that he never did this kind of crime and the allegations were faked. On 19 October 2020, the day of the hearing, the judges took only just a few minutes to reach their judgment.
John Leslie was asked to stand to hear the foreman say “They’d found him not guilty of one count of sexual assault”. After hearing those words John Leslie began to cry in the dock, his father, Les Stott, who attended court every day with his son, punched the air before he too broke down in tears. After the jury’s verdict, both son and father hugged and cried before they left.
