Glenn Kelman, the CEO of Redfin shared an announcement Early Monday morning with other top executives indicating that the Seattle-based brokerage would leave the National Association of Realtors.
Redfin Corporation provides residential real estate brokerage and mortgage origination services across the United States.
Ms. Kelman also cited the reasons behind the decision to leave the National Association of Realtors, A NAR policy that requires fees for a buyer’s agent on every listing, and allegations of sexual harassment within the group.
Despite an ongoing lawsuit against the National Association of Realtors (NAR). The leader said,
“We’ve had many meetings with NAR execs to explore compromises on the policies that would let us continue our support,” he added that the company has paid over $13 million in NAR dues since 2017, according to Geek Wire.
Why Redfin Leaves the National Association of Realtors?
Mantill Williams, a Vice President of Public Relations and Communication Strategy for the National Association of Realtors, said about the news that we respect Redfin’s decision and stand by its policies, Ms. Williams said, “Redfin told us in June they were planning to separate from NAR, and we respect their choice to do so.”

National Association of Realtors a.k.a N.A.R. is a powerful nonprofit with 1.5. million members, which led it to become the largest professional organization in the United States.
According to a report, published in August by the Times claimed that several women accused the organization’s former president, Kenny Parcell, of harassment and sexually inappropriate conduct. Afterward, he resigned from the organization within 48 hours.
Redfin recently shared an article and wrote there are two main reasons to end our support of the National Association of Realtors.
- NAR policies require a fee for the buyer’s agent on every listing
- a pattern of alleged sexual harassment.
Glenn Kelman is known for his sincerity and straightforwardness, further said, “NAR isn’t the future.”
“Our disagreement is with NAR, not with our industry,” the note says. “We love our industry. We’ve tried to love NAR. But enough is enough.”
