Jacques was born on 7 February 1922 to Robin Jaques and Mary A. Thorn at 125 Sandgate High Street, Sandgate, Kent. Her father Robin Rochester Jaques was an officer in the British Army and later a flying officer in the Royal Air Force.
While her mother, Mary Jaques was a nurse who served in the Voluntary Aid Detachment (VAD). In the Jaques family, Hattie Jacques was the child, who became a successful actress and played several characters throughout her career.

“Carry On Nurse” star Hattie Jacques was married to the actor John Le Mesurier from 1949 until their divorce in 1965, the reason behind their separation was her affair with another man for over five years.
She had been overweight since a young age, later she suffered ill health soon after the split from Le Mesurier and her weight rose to nearly 20 stone (280 lb; 130 kg). She suddenly passed away of a heart attack on 6 October 1980, at 58.
