Gino Mader has recently died in a fatal crash as per reports. The crash happened on the descent of the Albula Pass where he fell into a ravine. Gino’s family was shocked when they came to know about his death. Gino Mader was a track cyclist who was born in Flawil in the Canton of St.Gallen. Gino was one of the best cyclist in his team “Bahrain Victorious”. Before turning his passion into a professional on the road, Mader was a high-level track cyclist, who competed at the 2016 UEC European Track Championships in the team pursuit event.
Gino turn his passion into a profession in 2019, with “UCI WorldTeam Team Dimension Data”. Gino was an impressive athlete, an example of determination, and a respected member of his team and the whole cycling community. Gino was one of the most important member of his team. Suisse Cyclist Gino Mader passed away on Thursday, June 16, 2023, at the age of 26. The death of Gino’s happened after the crash during the Tour de Suisse on the final descent towards La Punt in Southern Switzerland. Mader was involved in a high-speed crash with American Magnus Sheffield, 21. He was taken to the hospital in chur after being found senseless in the water and revived at the scene.
Rider Roland Thalmann clarified the incident and said, “After a long curve, two bikes were lying on the side of the road, which didn’t look nice, when I looked back, I saw that two riders were quite far down.” On the other hand, British rider Geraint Thomas said, “I can’t believe what I’m reading. Such a sad sad day. Thoughts with everyone who knew and loved Gino.”
The confirmation we got of his death from his team “Bahrain Victorious” on Friday morning. It is with deep sadness and heavy hearts that we have to announce the passing of Gino Mader, the statement read. So, sadly we have to say that, on Friday, June 16th Gino lost his fight to recover from the serious injuries he got after a very damaging crash during stage five of the Tour de Suisse.
