Actress Lynne McGranger has been playing her role as Irene Roberts for over 30 years in the iconic Australian television soap opera The Home and Away since 1993. The character was first introduced in the show on 29 October 1991 and then played by Jacqy Phillips for two years.
In August 2023, there was news that the Home and Away star is stepping back from the show as she is preparing for her new role as she has taken on alongside the Cancer Council. The 70-year-old actress joined a campaign inspiring people to take bowel cancer screening tests.
Lynne told 7Life, “The participation rates on the bowel cancer screening tests are very low, around 40 percent, which is pretty terrible, But honestly, the test takes two minutes… do it, it’s simple to do, it’s hygienic and it may save your life.”
However, as of October 2023, she is still playing her role as Irene in the soap opera Home and Away. There are no official announcements of leaving the show.
Why Is Irene Leaving Home and Away?
Ms. Irene is not leaving the show as neither the Home and Away show creator nor the actress made any statement regarding her departure from the show.
In the last episode, we see in the show that When Irene goes to visit her family, Harper secretly lets her sister, Dana, stay in their house and lies to Irene about her absence. When Irene comes back, she perceives that Harper is hiding something, and Harper eventually admits that her sister Dana is in the house. Irene asks to be told right.
Harper tells Irene that Dana is innocent and is being wrongly accused by a corrupt police officer named Madden. However, things take a dark turn when Madden arrests Dana and takes her hostage.
Irene was arrested and gave a statement in the court. She is supposed to be in the bars for over seven years. That may be her long absence from the show although there are no updates that she is leaving or not.

Irene Roberts was arrested by Rose and charged with Harboring a fugitive and Harper both pleaded guilty. Recently Ms. Irene gave a statement and it was believed that she will be sentenced to seven years in prison.
