The character is played by 70-year-old actress Lynne McGranger who recently talked about her character she stated her character as “Irene is terrified,” after seeing her situation in the show.
“Irene was hesitant because she was trying to convince herself it wasn’t going to come to anything,” Australian actress Lynne McGranger tells TV WEEK. “The thought of going back to jail would be too much to bear.”
“She feels dreadful in court – she thinks she’s gone for all money, because [policewoman] Rose [Kirsty Marillier] had told her she could get seven years in jail,” said Lynne.
“The last time she was in jail she ended up back on the alcohol again.”
Irene was previously charged with trying to kill Tommy O’Reilly in 2019 after he sexually assaulted Bella (Courtney Miller). Irene was placed on a good behavior bond.

Irene has a new roommate named Harper Matheson. When Irene goes to visit her family, Harper secretly lets her sister, Dana, stay in their house and lies to Irene about her absence.
