Did Oppenheimer Win Nobel?
Julius Robert Oppenheimer was nominated for the Nobel prize three times in 1946, 1951 and, 1967 unfortunately he never won a single Nobel prize throughout his life. According to American Noble Prize winner Physicist Luis Alvarez, Oppenheimer might have won a Noble prize for his contribution to Gravitational Collapse.
According to Wikipedia, he was once asked by a historian and scientist, Abraham Pais about his most important contribution, Oppenheimer mentioned his work on Electrons and Positrons not his work on Gravitational Contraction.
Oppenheimer is often regarded as the father of the Atomic Bomb for his position in organizing the “Manhattan Project.”
Oppenheimer received a bachelor’s degree in Chemistry from Harvard University and a Ph.D. (Doctor of Philosophy) in Physics from the “University of Göttingen” in 1927.
He was plagued by depression and by continual trouble or distress then he once said to his brother Frank Oppenheimer, “I need physics more than friends”
How Did Oppenheimer Die?
J.R. Oppenheimer has been a chain smoker throughout his life, smoking several cigarettes in succession. He was very tall and thin. He died at the age of just 62 in his Princeton home on 18 Feb 1967.
He is well known for developing Nuclear Weapons. He got married to Katherine “Kitty” Puening in 1940 and they had two children.

As we know, Oppenheimer was diagnosed with throat cancer in 1965 which happened due to his bad habit of smoking several cigarettes a day. Although, he never tried to suicide and kill himself, his throat cancer led to his life ending in 1967.
