Countdown Changing to Woolworths: It is recently announced that Countdown will be rebranded as Woolworths from early next year. Woolworths plans to establish more convenient e-commerce shopping options and will open new offices in Christchurch in 2024.

Countdown, a supermarket owned by Woolworths New Zealand, opened first time in Northlands, Christchurch. New Zealand’s Countdown supermarket is set to rebrand back as Woolworths.
The parent company Woolworths Group stated it planned to invest more than $371 million over the next three years.
Woolworths New Zealand owns and operates around 195 Countdown supermarkets in New Zealand, it is the largest private sector employer with 20,000 New Zealanders employed in stores.
Rattrays Wholesale Group establishes Countdown Supermarkets while opening its first store in Northlands, Christchurch. In 2011, all Woolworths stores rebranded to Countdown.
New Logo after Rebranding in New Zealand and Australia
Recently Woolworths NZ spokesperson Ellen Read stated that it had a “rolling program of upgrading and refurbishing its stores”. According to the Australian supermarket giant, it comes as part of a “transformation program.”
Woolworths NZ would not be paying a large amount to its Australian parents for the use of the Woolworths brand in its store. she added.
Ellen Read said, “Absolutely – 100 percent. We are the same company, so we don’t pay to use the brand of the company that we are part of.”
Managing Director of Woolworths New Zealand, Spencer Sonn said:
“Having had the privilege of leading the New Zealand team for over two years now, I know there’s a lot that people love about what we do, and none of that will be going away. But our ambition is to be the best and to do this we know we need to be a better place to shop, better to work for, and all-round better for Aotearoa’s tomorrow,” Sonn added.
“In the coming months and years, you’re going to see us bringing the best of the Woolworths brand across the Tasman and equally sharing the best of what we have here with the broader Woolworths Group.”
